Halloween trivia quiz with answers

Ten Halloween trivia questions with the answers below, from the festival’s Celtic origins to the authors behind the monsters. It works as a ten-minute live round at a party or in a classroom, or as a link people take whenever they like.

The quiz beside this text is live. Fill it in and submit it — it validates exactly as it would for a real respondent, and saves nothing.

True or false questions with a ten-second timer

True or false questions default to ten seconds live, which keeps the pace up between the harder multiple-choice rounds.

Explanations after each answer

Several questions carry a one-line explanation that appears on the host screen at the reveal — the part of trivia people actually repeat later.

How to use this template

4 steps in the editor. Nothing here needs a paid plan.

  1. Press “Use this template” to open it in the quiz editor, then keep, change or add questions.
  2. To run it live, open the quiz and press Host live. Put the host screen on a projector: players go to votense.com/play on their phones, type the six-digit PIN and pick a nickname. You press Start; each question shows a countdown, reveals itself when time is up or everyone has answered, and a leaderboard follows.
  3. For a party where people drift in and out, share the link instead: each person sees their score and the right answers when they finish.
  4. Turn on “One attempt per person” before sharing the link if you are giving a prize for the top score.

What goes wrong with this quiz

Specific to this template, not general advice about quizzes.

Starting before everyone has joined

Late arrivals can still join with the PIN during the game, but they score nothing for questions already played. Wait on the lobby screen until the player count stops rising.

Typed answers with spelling traps

Typed answers ignore capitals and punctuation but not spelling. For a name people misspell, add the common misspellings as extra accepted answers.

Questions about this quiz

How many people can play at once?

Up to 50 players in one live game on the free plan (300 on Basic, 1,000 on Advanced), each on their own phone, with no account or app. Taken from a link instead of live, the limit is the plan’s response limit per quiz.

How is the score worked out?

In a live game a correct answer earns between 1,000 points (instant) and 500 points (at the buzzer), so speed matters; a wrong answer earns nothing. Taken from a link, every correct answer earns its full points. The server does the scoring — a player’s phone never decides it.

Is this suitable for children?

Yes — the questions are about history, books and folklore, with nothing gory. Players choose their own nicknames, so for a class, ask everyone to use their first name.
